NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Miraj National Service Scheme Initiatives since 1983

The NSS unit of 100 volunteers is working in the college. Since its beginning, the NSS Cell has been organizing various outreach programs from time to time. E.g., Poverty Alleviation Programme, Awareness of Various Schemes, Literacy Campaign, Village Survey, Environmental Pollution Prevention, Environmental Protection, Plantation and Conservation, Surface Water Management, Health Services, Family Planning, Blood Donation, Anti-Drug and Anti-Alcohol Awareness, Health and Hygiene Awareness, Public awareness lectures, Campus cleaning and beautification, Drainage maintenance, Rural road maintenance, Distribution of masks and sanitizers, E-waste management, Food relief, Voter awareness, etc. The programs are attended by Programme Officers, Faculty members and Non-Teaching staff, as well as a good number of students. All the students have participated in various campaigns. All these events are organized by NSS units.

The work of the NSS department of the college is carried out as per the instructions given by the government and Shivaji University, Kolhapur from time to time. Various events are organized under the guidance of the Management, the Principal and IQAC. During the Floods as well as the Covid-19 Pandemic, the NSS department has maintained social commitment by helping in various ways. A village is adopted for community service. A special camp is organized in the village. From time to time the department as well as the volunteers gets guidance from the Vice-Chancellor, Pro. Vice-Chancellor, and Registrar, NSS Director of Shivaji University and Management of the College.

Therefore, 24 th September is celebrated every year as NSS Day with appropriate programs and activities.

Objectives:

  • To awaken the Social Consciousness for Community Service with the Motto: NOT ME BUT YOU.
  • To inculcate the spirit of selflessness among the students.
  • To develop a sense of social and civic responsibility.
  • To establish a meaningful linkage between Campus and Community,College and Village & Knowledge and Action.
  • To identify the needs & problems of the community and extend a helping hand.

Functions:

  • To orient first year graduate students about the NSS wing of the college.
  • Organizing guest lectures, workshops, camps, panel discussions, group discussions on civic responsibilities
  • Organizing social service camps, rallies, street plays, etc., about various societal concerns for example, pollution control, save energy, save water, save electricity, save tree rehabilitation of privileged.
  • Contemplating, implementing social concerns and related measures.
